Contrary to popular belief, Alabama’s forests are still dominated by pines. Only one other long-needled pine grows in the Heart of Dixie, making the Longleaf easy to identify with its long, twisted needles bunched into groups of three.
Despite its hot, humid summers, the feathery and coniferous Longleaf Pine has remained the Alabama state tree since 1997.
